Sub Coda” is the 10th Celestial 天上 album, and third in the series that began with “Subversions Vol. I”, and continues the thematic style initiated with Vol. I. This third iteration in the series however is even more minimal than the previous two, being dominated by very simple piano patterns and throbbing analogue synthesizers.
The recordings of Asian instruments; Erhu, Shakuhachi, Koto, Sitar, Flute and Tabla etc, are still there, borrowed from decades old recordings that featured on previous Celestial 天上 albums. But in between those elements, the piano and synth dominate, and at the same time leave plenty of deep, contemplative space. World famous jazz guitar legend Eugene Pao features on two tracks, and his old bandmate, Dave Packer, also adds harmonica.
